Prescriptivism
Three tasks for students to explore prescriptivism by looking at a range of prescriptivist attitudes. There are eight quotes which express views about the development of the English language from 1794 onwards from a range of writers including Swift, Johnson, Hardy and Orwell, and a series of grammatical 'mistakes' from the 1980s for students to explore. There is also a research task for students to complete.
