Use Emma Watson's recent UN speech to spark feminist discussion.

  • Before you watch the video get students to discuss what feminism means to them. Have they seen or read anything in the news recently related to feminism – what are their thoughts on how it's portrayed?

  • Watch the video and then gather responses. Do they agree/disagree with what Watson has said? Are any of them going to alter their behaviour as a result of seeing this speech?

  • Now read the letter written by a 15 year old boy in response to Emma Watson's speech. What's their reaction to this?

  • Get students to think of a whole school initiative they could implement to highlight the issues of feminism to their fellow students.
