Get your students inspired and excited about poetry by showing them some of Kate Tempest's work.  This particular poem focuses on what Shakespeare means to her.

Teaching ideas:

  • Discuss their thoughts on the poem. Did they like it? Were they surprised by the format? What was the main message of the poem?
  • Get them to write their own poem, in a similar style, about what Shakespeare (or another author they admire) means to them. He could mean nothing!
  • Watch some more of her poetry and talk about whether they find it more 'accessible' than other poetry they've heard or read. Why/why not?
