Putting away Xmas - a list poem

This is my finished version. A list poem – and without, in the end, the addition of tidied (perhaps because I didn’t tidy!)

Sorted: baubles, balls and stars, January appointments
Removed: batteries from lights, wreaths from doors, notes from wallet
Recycled: cards, wrapping paper, some bits of string, wishes
Coiled: tinsel, tree light cables, heart-strings
Boxed: a golden bird, games, memories
Binned: the poor poinsettia, ragged wrappings, my old address book
Remaining: candles, cake, goodwill

Coiled: tinsel, tree light cables, heart-strings
Removed: batteries from lights, wreaths from doors, notes from wallet
Recycled: cards, wrapping paper, some bits of string, wishes
Sorted: baubles, balls and stars, January appointments
Stored: a golden bird, a quilted tree surround from Nova Scotia, games played and unplayed
Boxed: memories
Dumped / binned: Poinsettia, ragged wrappings, the old address book
Forgotten: the present for Aunt Emily
Remaining: candles, goodwill

I think there’s something here but it hasn’t found its shape yet.

Coiled: tinsel, tree light cables

Boxed: memories

Dumped: Poinsettia

Forgotten: the present for Aunt Emily

Remaining: candles, goodwill

I know I like the concrete but I feel this really could do with a dose of the intangibles to liven it up.

For example, stored: season’s greetings; forgotten: goodwill (a bit too cynical perhaps?) but it’s an idea. Or the goodwill could be placed under ‘remaining’.

Reading through, I notice the prevalence of verbs so I wonder if I can make something of that.

Coiled: tinsel, tree light cables

Removed: batteries from lights

Recycled:

Sorted:

Stored:

Boxed:

Will this work? They could be imperatives – Coil! Or as on a parade ground: batteries from lights, re…move!

I think it could, but might need some other unifying feature.

Notes on the disappearance of Christmas...

Poinsettia is losing its leaves but not its red brachs Tinsel coiled Lights wound up and wound down batteries removed Odd decorations found hanging from the lights later Wreaths removed Presents still leaning on the mantelpiece – what shall I do with… Some wrapping paper unused and some recycled Xmas cards left over And xmas cards I really must go through Candles –well we can carry on using them The xmas fairy turned out to be a star and then a golden bird from Indonesia or somewhere afar Baubles now in boxes, No holly brought in this year / Cheer Games to put away Up into the loft We used to… hang streamers – curl/twist them round – then hang silver strips –
