All vehicles now equal

The fifty mile an hour signs are flashing
The cavalcade is slowing down
Tail lights blinking ahead
And now
Lane closure signs and cones abound
Pipes and cables on the ground

Add to all this, first raindrops splashing
Onto verges, road and windscreen.
Brake lights now an unrelenting red,
Their glow
Altering the ETA that might have been.
So near, so out of reach: the shades of green.

Everything but the last line which still needs adding....

I think 'changing' or 'altering' rather than 'deleting' though.

The fifty mile an hour signs are flashing
The cavalcade is slowing down
Tail lights blinking ahead
And now
Lane closure signs and cones abound
Pipes and cables on the ground

Add to all this, first raindrops splashing
Onto verges, road and windscreen.
Brake lights now an unrelenting red
Their glow
Deleting the ETA that might have been

A lot of trouble with this and finally changed the last line completely. Now much happier.

Add to all this, first raindrops splashing

Onto verges, road and windscreen.
Brake lights now an unrelenting red
Their glow
Deleting the ETA that might have been

Out of this disjointed jotting will come the second verse, I hope.

Add to all this ………………. Rain splashing  (first raindrops?)

On road and windscreen or  On to verges, road and windscreen

Brake lights now/……red

Emitting / Unrelenting

Their glow

Dispersed by droplets………Last line   rhyme een

And now
Lane closure signs (or yellow (amber?) lights) and cones abound
Pipes and cables on the ground.

The first line of the next verse needs to end with a rhyme for flashing and I already have rain splashing in mind.

Add to all this ………………. Rain splashing  (first raindrops)
On road and windscreen

Making some changes to the first stanza's 3rd 5th and 6th lines. I know I can make those somethings work.

The fifty mile an hour signs are flashing

The cavalcade is slowing down

Tail lights blinking ahead

And now

Something something   and cones abound

Something something   on the ground

Write about what you know is one of the recommendations writers give - or is given to writers. Not always, of course, otherwise there would be no sci-fi, fantasy etc...  No Harry Potter.   But here is an opportunity to do so - a Motorway Experience.

First a few quick jottings.

Tail lights  Overhead signs    Lane closures    Cones zones    Slowing down    Lorries trucks vans cars    Understand narrow lanes    congestion

Then some starting lines that come quite quickly - no rhymes to worry about yet.

The fifty mile an hour signs are flashing
The cavalcade is slowing down
Tail lights blink red ahead
And now
Lane closure signs

I came across this poem by Hardy.  It has an intriguing pattern of rhyme and line length which I would like to try and replicate. All I need is a topic....

Proud Songster

The thrushes sing as the sun is going,
And the finches whistle in ones and pairs,
And as it gets dark loud nightingales
In bushes
Pipe, as they can when April wears,
As if all Time were theirs.

These are brand new birds of twelvemonths' growing,
Which a year ago, or less than twain,
No finches were, nor nightingales,
Nor thrushes,
But only particles of grain,
And earth, and air, and rain.
