We are the music makers

I think you and/or your students could have fun with the teacher one. Other subjects?  I tried footballers but maybe I know too little about it. Other animals might have potential. Cats, obviously, but also frogs, mice, parrots...

I'm thinking of a nice parody for Christmas.  Maybe 'It was the night before Christmas and all through the house...'

I think 'We are the setters of tests' sounds better than 'We are the test setters'. Maybe also, 'We are the wielders of pens that are red' would work?

We are the makers of rules (or upholders of rules?)

The blowers of whistles (rather than whistleblowers which has another meaning)

We are the essay markers, the givers of grades

We are the dispensers of knowledge

The correctors of errors..

I enjoyed that.  These could be quite nice riddles.  Here's an obvious one:

We are the test setters

We are the red pen wielders

(etc)

A bit of a rhyme has crept in, I see - unplanned. It's the repeated rhythm that's important, though.

We are the cat chasers

We are the retrievers of sticks

We are the stopper by lampposts

We are the cockers of legs

We are the sniffers, the lickers

The trippers of unwary feet

we are the mischief makers

the hair droppers, the tail-waggers

we are the movers and shakers

We are the cat chasers

We are the getters of sticks  (was retrievers better?)

We are the stopper by lampposts

We are the cockers of legs  (male dogs only, but so archetypal)

We are the sniffers, the lickers

The trippers of unwary feet

This could run and run....

..

I think this asks for a poem to be written in the voice of another -

For example:

We are the cat chasers

We are the getters / retrievers of sticks

We are the stopper by lampposts

....so thinking of typical doggy things - tail wagging, walkies, sniffing, eating, licking, sleeping....

I came across O'Shaughnessy's poem recently and thought it would make a good starting point for me - and for young (or old) writers too.

We are the music makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers,
  And sitting by desolate streams;—
World-losers and world-forsakers,
On whom the pale moon gleams:
Yet we are the movers and shakers
Of the world for ever, it seems.

This is the first stanza and some of the lines have become well-known. It goes on a bit after this and often only the first three stanzas are shown.  He's bigging up poets, I assume!

But 'We are the....' is a great way to begin.
