Snake in white

Finished item - sorry it took so long at the end...

A murmur, a movement
Two sounds: front and back
A burst of applause as two figures appear
Snake in white and Jess in black.

The golden pipe
and the deep bass sax
playing shared harmonies
Snake in white and Jess in black.

There's a crescendo
...then the notes relax
into a phrase half familiar and yet...
Snake in white and Jess in black.

High and low, dark and light,
variations on a familiar track
Sounds interweave...disappear, come back
Snake in white and Jess in black.....
Snake in white and Jess in black.

Snake in white, Jess in black

I've got this to a place where I'm fairly happy with it.

Lots of dots.... because it's that kind of poem...

A murmur, a movement
Two sounds: front and back
A burst of applause as two figures appear:
Snake in white and Jess in black.

The golden pipe
and the deep bass sax
flowing in harmony:
Snake in white and Jess in black.

There's a crescendo
...then the notes relax
into a phrase half familiar and yet...
Snake in white and Jess in black.

Rememberd melodies and
A variation on a familiar track...
Sounds interweave...disappear, come back...
Snake in white and Jess in black.....
Snake in white and Jess in black.

The shape is now clear. Just a couple of lines that need sorting out.

A murmur, a movement
Two sounds: front and back
A burst of applause as two figures appear
Snake in white and Jess in black.

The golden pipe
and the deep bass sax
playing in harmony (?)
Snake in white and Jess in black.

There's a crescendo
...then the notes relax
into a phrase half familiar and yet...
Snake in white and Jess in black.

>> need a line here.
variations on a familiar track
Sounds interweave...disappear, come back
Snake in white and Jess in black.....

Before I forget them -

A variation (variations?) on a familiar track

Sounds interweave...

Some alterations and additions:

A murmur, a movement
Two sounds: front and back
A burst of applause as two figures appear
Snake in white and Jess in black.

The golden pipe

and the deep bass sax

playing in harmony (this line needs work)

Snake in white and Jess in black.

There's a crescendo

...then the notes relax
into a (melodic phrase?)

Snake in white and Jess in black.

Reworking the first verse and some ides for a second and third:

A murmur, a movement
A light at the back
A burst of applause as two figures appear
Snake in white andJess in black.

She recalled a pupil describing her sax as a golden pipe. I'd like to use that.

The golden pipe and the deep bass sax
They're playing in harmony as if .....
Snake in white andJess in black.

There's a ......then the notes relax

Snake in white andJess in black.

A New Thought

Putting that aside for the moment, I had an idea for a poem while at a local gig.  Two saxophonists were playing, Snake Davis and Jess Gillam.  As well as playing beautifully, their appearance struck me: Snake in white and Jess in black.  I thought that would make a good ending for a series of verses celebrating the evening. My notes so far are sketchy.

Snake in white and Jess in black

A flicker of LEDs

The golden pipe and the deep bass sax

A murmur of smiles from the front to the back

A burst of applause as two figures appear

There's a ripple of notes like a brook over rocks

Did I say warm days and open neck shirts?  Well, I did mention thicker clothes.

Perhaps something on the theme of what we want and what we get.  What we expect and what we get?  What we deserve...?

Thinking about it.
