The Poetry Place

I got a bit carried away:

Cardboard, corrugated and plain
Scissors, knife and sticky tape
And garden wire
A cylinder as tall as me

The finishing touches cotton wool snow on top
and a times of collection on the front
red paper wrapped all round

The postmen got used to it
And popped the Christmas cards inside
I suppose there weren't many urgent letters
Bills were few and far between
And would not get paid till after, anyway.

Christmas Eve, the box was brought inside
The lid removed and all the envelopes scooped out
And opened. Too late if you forgot
Great Aunt Maud or the friend
You made on holiday. It's Xmas Eve Hooray Too Late!
