Students write three different diary entries, from three moments from Dickens' childhood, following research about his life. In writing, they can show what they have learned about Victorian life.
1. Write an entry which shows a day in his life as a middle-class young man with quite a privileged life and expectations of life as a ‘gentleman’.
2. Write an entry for the evening that he finds out his father is going to prison for debt and he will be taken out of school. He is worried about his and his family’s future.
3. Write an entry late at night. Dickens is now working in a factory making shoe polish. He has been working at the factory for a number of weeks and his father is still in prison.
