A selection of word games which could be used as starters or ice-breakers.

Games revolve around developing vocabulary, choosing specific words, using words accurately, playing with words and speaking continuously. The games are:

  • What's my word?
  • The neighbour's cat
  • Pass the bomb
  • Games without rules
  • Just a minute
  • Following instructions

These versatile games could work well as filler activities, starters, plenaries, in tutor time, or as part of literacy across the curriculum initiatives.

This is good resource, I haven't tried yet with my students, hoping to in the future. I think this would help to get dialogue going and improve their vocabularies.
