This triple matching worksheet on English persuasive terms asks students to match persuasive terms with the correct definitions and examples of persuasive techniques.

The persuasive language techniques include rhetorical questions, triples, opinion as fact, superlatives, emotive language, flattery and pronouns.

After an initial discussion around the connotations and meaning of each term, students could potentially explore how to use these persuasive devices for effect in pairs or groups. They could consider scenarios such as how to use persuasive language techniques to support expert opinion or to develop a point of view in a piece of writing. They could also consider how persuasive techniques could support a counter-argument, such as by using an emotional appeal in a speech.

This engaging resource builds students' confidence in their understanding of persuasive strategies and will helps them to deliver a particular point of view in a piece of writing at KS3 or at GCSE. It can also be used for revision.
