Now try it yourself. What can you do to improve the style of these sentences?  Using the advice from the table, rewrite each sentence to make it sound more formal.

1. Macbeth doesn’t tell Lady Macbeth about his plan to have Banquo murdered.

2. In this essay I will analyse the effects of the Second World War on the German economy.

3. As the waves wore away the rocks, fossils showed up.
