This resource encourages students to think about the character of Shylock in detail and whether we should feel sympathy for him. They are tasked with making a display about him, taking into account his actions and what other characters in the play say/think about him. They then plot points on a grid with key events from the text and decide whether they feel 'sympathetic, 'neutral' or 'unsympathetic'. Finally they answer an essay style question - To what extent do we sympathise with Shylock?
