1. Students write a short biography of a 2023 Women's World Cup player or manager, with some scaffolded prompts to help them to research and organise their ideas.

2. Students write an informational text (leaflet or webpage) on the World Cup, researching and providing key information on the tournament for a general audience.

3. Students work together to create a presentational pitch or bid to host the World Cup in 2030, before presenting to the class and a FIFA representative (aka their teacher!). This task helps to develops their collaboration, persuasive language and oracy skills.

4. Students write a short persuasive, travel-inspired text to describe one of host nations for the 2026 World Cup.

An example task from the classroom worksheet:

Now write a short biography of a football manager or player at the World Cup in 2023. You could choose Sarina Wiegman or a member of the England team, or anyone you are interested in.

  • Research the life of the person you have chosen to write about. You should try to use a variety of sources.
  • Create a timeline of key events in the life of the person you have chosen to write about. This will remind you what order to put things in and will help you think about how events in their life have made them into the person they are today.
  • Have a look at some examples of biographies and see if you can identify any aspects of style that you can use in your own writing.
  • Use your notes to write the biography. Use the true/false activity as a checklist to keep you on track.
