AQA Power and conflict: Comparing the poems’ language, structure and form
Help students focus on A02 language, structure and form, with this comparative grid for the Power and conflict anthology poems. The grid includes some suggestions for how to comment on the three aspects of the poems using 'Ozymandias,' 'My Last Duchess' and 'War Photographer' as examples.
The example grid is followed by a template so that students can make notes on the language, structure and form for each poem. This resource would work well as a group revision activity or as homework to complete over a series of lessons on the poems.

Comment on structure:
('Ozymandias') The first and last lines refer to distant and vast landscapes with images of huge spaces either side of the section on Ozymandias’ ‘greatness’. This draws the reader’s attention to the king’s insignificance at the beginning and end of the poem.
