Childhood memories and annotations: 'The Prelude' by William Wordsworth
In this resource, teachers asks students to think of a childhood memory that gave them 'troubled pleasure' and then leads into annotating Wordsworth's extract from 'The Prelude'.
Students annotate by identifying:
- light and dark imagery
- imagery linked to nature
- verbs describing the boy's actions
- sibilance
- metaphors and similes
- elements of the sublime and Gothic horror
- rhyme.
