More activities for one of my favourite texts. They deal more with the context of the novel, writing style, some guidance for essay writing plus some work with quotations.

One of the reasons I like this novel so much is that all the writing leads to a great deal of discussion that it relys on inferential thinking skills a great deal. The author doesn't tell us too much and leads the reader on to think "why" for both the plot and the way the characters respond. The plot gallops away - and the length of the book doesn't put students off - it looks achievable.

My key to exactly who is a great author for those with no love of reading is the question"What else did he write?" and Robert Cormier is an author that students want to hear more from.

I am the Cheese has proved to be another popular read. The Chocolate War was not so popular - "I don't want to read about bullying when I have experienced just how awful it can be" was a comment from several students.
