Revising non-fiction text types

A comprehensive guide to revising different types of non-fiction writing, which includes tips on writing each text type as well as five exam-style practice questions. Text types include:

  • letters
  • speeches
  • articles
  • leaflets
  • essays.

Example of writing tips

  • Show awareness of audience from the beginning – use phrases like ‘thank you for inviting me here to speak to you today’ / ‘thank you for giving me this opportunity to express my views’.
  • Follow the rhythms of speech, so use contracted forms (‘can’t’, ‘won’t’ etc.).
  • Use a less formal tone, but no slang/colloquialisms.

Designed for AQA GCSE English Language Paper 2, but suitable for any exam board.
