Teaching notes

Lady Macbeth:

  • Devious and ambitious.  When she reads the letter from Macbeth, her reaction is immediately to plot an evil act.
  • Manipulates her husband and pressurises him into committing murder/regicide and treason.
  • Uses her sexuality and sexual power over Macbeth to force him into committing a crime he was uncomfortable in committing.
  • Link with the Supernatural would mean she would be immediately perceived as a villain at the time.
