Exploring types of evidence

A series of tasks to get students thinking about different types of evidence when writing or reading an argument. There is a matching activity and a table to consider the weaknesses and strengths of different types of evidence. 

Sample content

In a group of three, discuss and then make notes on the possible strengths and limitations of these evidence types:
  • expert quotation
  • authority statement
  • generalisation
  • fact
  • anecdote
  • statistic.
