I used this over two one hour lessons on a one-to-one basis. We used a dictionary and thesaurus to find new words for the "Why Powerful?" column (to be learnt and used for homework) and I led the student to invent poetic techniques, for column two, similar to the nature of those used in the actual poems. We also revised the techniques and their effects, i.e. why use them? at the same time. We read and discussed the poems, their language, form and structure and effects and how the techniques brought out the 'meaning' of the poem. Homework for lesson one was to make a grid showing similarities and differences. Lesson two was constructing cohesive sentences and paragraphs for an essay questions. It is an excellent resource and I shall use it again.
