Re-creative task for Chapter 2 of 'Into the Wild' by Jon Krakauer

Designed for students studying Into the Wild for AQA A2 English Language and Literature. This re-creative task focuses on Chapter 2 of the text and asks students to recast the section from the perspective of the girl that discovers Chris's body.

Sample content

Recast the section into the account that the girl would give to an Alaskan State Trooper trying to discover who the unknown man in the bus was and how he died.

In your recast you should:

  • Develop the characters of the girl and her boyfriend and explain what they were doing at the abandoned bus just off the stampede trail.
  • Include the girl's comment on how she felt when she and her boyfriend read Chris’s note outside the bus and noticed the terrible smell of decay.
  • Explain how relieved they were when the three hunters, Thompson, Samuel and Swanson arrived.
  • Was she shocked when the body was discovered? How did it make her feel? Did she remain whilst the State troopers searched the bus and took the body away? Did she and her boyfriend carry on with their plans or return to Anchorage?
