An exam-style extract question on the theme of gender, asking students to respond to the following critical viewpoint: 

Desdemona and Emilia become the victims not of marriage but of male characters who view them through the opposing but mutually reinforcing cultural lenses of romantic idealisation and anxious misogyny.
