Evaluating theories of spoken language acquisition
Last updated: 15/11/2023
Students consider how to evaluate the five key linguistic theories relating to children's language development (imitation/behaviourism, nativism, social interaction, cognition and usage-based approach) following an 'apples and pears' approach.
They then read a brief summary of each theory and examine supporting evidence along with evidence which challenges each theory to come to their own conclusions. Ideal for consolidating students' understanding of key theories and for exam preparation.
