Example revision activities from the student workbook:

Zooming in on 'Ozymandias'

  • What quotations can you find which give us a hint about the sort of leader Ozymandias was when he was alive?
  • What is the effect of the story being told to us by a person who has not seen the statue for themselves, but is just retelling details of something he was once told about?
  • How does Shelley use sound for effect within the poem?
  • Why do you think the statue is now broken? What possibilities are there? What wider messages are there in the image of this broken statue and its inscription?
  • Why is the statement written on the pedestal ironic?

Diamond nine:

Find a short quotation to support each of the diamond-nine statements. Explain why the quotation you found supports the statement.

Exam-style questions:

Compare the ways poets present ideas about the power of nature in ‘Ozymandias’ and
‘Storm on the Island’.

Discuss the ways in which poets present human power within ‘Ozymandias’ and one other poem.

The drawings are rather infantile and will put off my students. I avoid resources like this. Besides, this resource is not very good. I have made my own for several years and they find great acclaim by my students.

I totally agree with all the other comments re subscription. I can buy an equivalent resource elsewhere and only subscribed so that I can gain access to this sort of material as part of the cost. I’d be interested to know what is new and free for subscribers only as it appears that the I would be better off returning to my free subscription when my year ends. Very disappointed.

Agree that this should be free for members. But, looking at the samples I don't rate this more highly than various schools' material that can be found on a Google search, or the Mr Bruff YouTube clips.

Totally agree that TeachitEnglish is charging members for this resource, when the joining details alluded to free downloadables. Unethical in this trying time for so many. It’s bad enough having to photocopy at our cost! Please re-think TIE - I think there is sufficient feeling in the comments on here ...

Do you have plans to create a similar resource for the 'Love and Relationships' cluster of poems?

I find this an absolutely invaluable resource. It’s attractive, concise and provides my students with the information and understanding essential for exam success.
I use this in the classroom and, during lockdown, on-line.
